The first meeting with a mediator is called Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM).
The purpose of this meeting is for you to share and speak to someone in a safe space to discuss the issues that need to be resolved and find out how mediation works. The mediator will tell you all your options and whether mediation is the best option for your situation. We understand that costs are always a concern, and we will give you an estimate of how many meetings your case will take to resolve – all outside the court and avoiding hefty lawyers fees. A voucher scheme is available for eligible parties for up to £500 Mediation Voucher Scheme – Family Mediation Council.
The mediator will also give you information about other services that provide help and support.
